Rehmat steps up it's response for Pakistan flood relief!
As we have in past natural disasters, Rehmat continues to work closely with partner organizations to assist in the response to the terrible floods in Pakistan. This includes our staff who live and work in that country.
The situation in Pakistan is rapidly changing rapidly as severe floods have swept down the country and it is expected that more rains will arrive in the coming weeks. As the needs are emerging, and the scale of the destruction is understood Rehmat Foundation is stepping up its response, working on a number of initiatives in all flood-affected areas to provide shelter, clean water, healthcare and food.
Despite huge logistical challenges, our relief work and donations have been among the first to reach many marooned villages. With the temporary halt in rainfall, people have been able to make their way to Rehmat distribution outlets, providing food and clean water as well as basic medication, treating some of cases such as acute diarrhea, vomiting and nausea complaints, and respiratory infections.
The harsh reality is that according to the UN over 1,600 people have been killed, with nearly 20 million affected, majority of them women, children and the elderly. This is the worst flood in living memory for Pakistan. The situation in Pakistan is so tragic it has been described as worse than Haiti's earthquake or the tsunami that took place in Asia. Millions of your brothers and sisters are at high risk of deadly water-borne diseases, such as watery diarrhea and dysentery.
Alhamdulillah, Rehmat Foundation is on the ground and is distributing....
- £5.00 food packages containing flour, rice, lentils and water enough to last a family up to 2/3 days.
- £10.00 worth of basic cooking facilities such as pots and pans etc to assist our brothers and sisters to start cooking and drinking clean food.
- £5.00 Basic medicine packs inc. first aid equipment.
This is emergency relief and whilst we will do more for these poor and destitute families, for now we have adopted this method. These are the bare essentials to begin; there is much more work to be done. Please, this is their time of need! The Rehmat Foundation team has already distributed more than 2000 food packs inc. basic cooking utensils and medicines.
In line with our principles on humanitarian support, we are continuing to evaluate the ongoing needs and provide further support in the recovery efforts.
